Delsin is d y s l e x i c.
The disorder set on at an early age but,
thanks to a mix of being both stubborn
and embarrassed, he failed to mention
his difficulty reading to any of his teachers,
peers or family. It was actually Reggie
who mentioned Delsin’s frequent spelling
inaccuracies and short pauses while he
spoke to the one of the reservation doctors.
After that, Delsin was set up with a regiment consisting
of a medicine to treat the attention deficit disorder and
an individualized education plan. It made things easier,
but didn’t completely fix the problem. Together it
compounded with a few stressors and drove Delsin to
drop out of high school his senior year.
At least for a few weeks until his brother started
getting calls about his attendance and confronted
him about it. Delsin did miss his graduation but,
with the help and, well, force that is Reggie, he
completed his GED.
